I will never forget the early days when I was looking for success in my online business ventures. I may be one of the few to admit that success online took longer than I ever thought possible. What used to annoy me more were the numerous blogs that used to claim that they were making thousands of dollars a day while I could never manage more than 10cts a day on adsense.
It was very obvious to me even then that I needed to rethink my online business goals if I was not going to wind up losing my mind and going crazy.
Factors to Consider While Setting Online Business Goals
Set Realistic Goals
The power of the internet is that it is hard to lie. You may see from this blog that among the first articles I wrote was my goal to earn a million dollars from my blogging.
Granted that it shows that I am rather ambitious, it still shows that I was rather naïve in my thinking at that time. It didn’t take long for me to realize that it is easier to type 1 million dollars than doing the work that is necessary for that to occur.
I will not belabor this point for the possibility of sounding like your mom or dad. You know what sounds realistic to you and that is what you should concentrate on.
Which brings me to the next point.
Set Internet Business Goals that Wake you Up at Night
If you want to be bored, then go about setting boring goals. There is nothing more important than setting goals that make you wake up with a sweat at night thinking about the next big idea that will bring you closer to what you want.
Most online business success gurus go around advising people to pin up pictures of what they want. The goal here is once you see yourself in a little red corvette, you are more likely going to get the extra energy needed to submit your blog to another boring blog directory.
Trust me, internet marketing is and can be extremely boring. I guess that is why many will try it and run away as soon as they realize it.
Self Belief and Online Business Goals
You could buy the latest version of online business success courses but I can assure you, if you don’t believe that you can succeed online, then go look for a job.
It is not enough to write down your goals. You must have belief in your abilities to achieve and do what is necessary to succeed.
You may be a stay at home drunk, but you had better believe that you can learn how to add a component in your joomla based website otherwise……It is not about believing that you will find success online only but believing that you have what it takes to learn and do what is necessary to take a blog from $0 to $100 in earnings.
It is only when you believe that you can then ACT!
Action Brings Online Business Success

It is easy to fall into the trap of reading the so called A-list bloggers and all the ebooks you can buy on ebay. The problem is that you will never achieve much in online business if you do not take those few minutes necessary looking for links back to your website.
The first time I wrote down exactly what I needed to move sales in one of my joomla based sites, I nearly died. It was a new job! It required that I do work that I had no intention of ever doing.
So you can imagine that I would visit the blog statistics wondering why I was not getting any google love. A few months of being unable to pay my bills ensured that I was busy commenting on other people’s blogs when I did not want to.
It was only when I started doing….that success in my online business came to me.

Yes, it’s very important to set realistic goals – particularly when it’s related to the internet. And the reason is because so much is down to Google. And it’s just going to do what it wants, when it wants.
So you might spend 3 weeks of solid content building and then see almost no rise in traffic. That can be disheartening. So it’s best not to hang your hopes on too big a result.
