You have seen them all. “Buy me e-book and make 1 million dollar”, “my Internet club will make you rich”, “my SEO tactics are legendary”, “watch my video blog and become rich”. It is easy to fork out $10 for an e-book when you are starting out in your online business. However, after about 10 e-books all of which have the first chapter explaining to you that Al Gore really did not invent the Internet, you get to be a bit wary.

I do not have a problem with anyone selling an e-book or any product. Information is not cheap and people need to be compensated for the time and effort they took to create their product. However, next time you look at a sales page , think of the following Internet marketing lies.

1. You will make 1 million Dollars Online from my Online Program

That may be true but they should also say that you may also lose 30 bucks on a useless program that has yet to be proven to work. Such statements are normally followed by statements like “our projections are conservative” and great graphical representations of how $1 a day in Google will make you $30 a month. So if you have 100 web sites, you will be making $300 a month.

Next online program I will buy will be the one that tells me that

” we picked the number $1 in the air and we have no proof that you can earn $1 a day from Google and have yet to meet anyone who can prove that they run 100 web sites without going crazy.”

2. Our Team is Made up of World Class Internet Marketers

Maybe you do but that is such a subjective statement. World class to whom? I am sure anyone with a computer that can set up Joomla or WordPress in Zimbabwe can be considered world class.

Having worked as a customer service rep in AT&T for 2 years does not make you world class anything. Owning a blog and posting 2 posts a day for 1 year does not make you a “proven, world class SEO expert”. Neither does it mean that your $14 a month mentoring program will make me rich.

3. Percentage Games

I hate this trick with a passion. “If you only sell our program to 1% of the people on the Internet, you will be the biggest online company ever “.

If you could only get 1% of the people online searching for this keyword, you will then have over 1 million people on your web site every day and only 20% convert to Google adsence revenue you could earn about 1 million dollars online.

Any time I see someone showing me percentages, I know he has no idea what he is talking about. He’s just using numbers to scare the hell out of me to get another months’ worth of my subscription.

4. Build It They Will Come

I know that “Field of Dreams” was a great movie. But that is it. It was a movie. Just building web sites for the heck of it and having your own opt in emails etc will not make them come. They might come once and never return.

Just building crappy web sites with automated software and expecting to be an online millionaire is really not the right way to do things.

I have stopped building. It is time now to market, add content, improve and repeat again. It is not a simple task, but it is now fun especially now that I do not have to worry about going for online goals that have absolutely no place in my life.
