I have been wondering if article marketing can be a useful tool for marketing and selling your online business. I have to say that I have never bothered too much about how to sell my online business. I have been more concerned with trying to
- Get subscribers to my blog feed,
- Comment on other people’s blogs,
- Submitting to article directories
- Writing my own blogs
I have to admit that after doing this for a year, it occurred to me that the results were not as great as expected. I have discovered painfully that some of the make money online blogs are filled with hogwash.
Let us look at some of the ideas they have but are not fully explained.
Write One Article a Day
I hate writing this cliché “Write one Article a day and you will succeed online”.
I am sorry, it may have some truth but it is not all true. I have one web site where I faithfully write one article a day and been doing so for the past one year. Guess what. It has given me all of $10 over the past one year.
Another site has I think 10 articles. It produces a pretty penny every month in Google Adsense income.
It occurred to me that the second site had exactly what people were looking for. I had decided to write about one topic that was disturbing me and I wrote those articles in 2 days after much research. It turns out that other people are still interested in it.
It got me thinking of Keywords. Yes, one article a day is nothing without your targeting the proper keywords. In fact, I hazard to say that after one year, any article I wrote without keywords is hanging somewhere in the net with no single visit.
Write Good Quality Content and Visitors will Come
This is probably going to be an idea that is going to make you broke very fast. This is because quality content is a very subjective issue. You may have noticed that what Google search considers to be quality content may not be what yahoo search thinks.
I don’t know about you but much as I think that the Google people are genius, I don’t think their bots can tell what is good content or not. I have found some really useless information on sites ranked as number one.
Good content is good in order to retain your clients. Its like opening up a shop. You need to make sure that when a customer comes into the shop, he can enjoy the experience. It is wrong to think that good content is what brings in your clients. I dare say that good content only keeps your readers in your online business.
Online Marketing for your Online Business
So since y
ou have the keywords and you have good content, you should expect a million visitors a day, right? Not necessarily. This is where you need to hire salespeople to go out and market your product.
I have tried various online marketing methods to sell my business. Some are so bad and evil I can’t even mention them here. The truth of the matter is that most only work for a second, others never and others will bring you visitors forever.
The idea is not to get 1 million visitors. The total idea behind online marketing is to get good quality visitors who will buy your product. Anything short of that is a waste of time.
Some of the so called online marketing tools I will never use include:
- Traffic Exchanges – Never use this kind of traffic. It is useless and serves no one but the owner of the traffic exchange
- Stumble Upon – I am sorry to say that this is just a glorified traffic exchange. The traffic lasts for some 5 seconds and does nothing but fill up bandwidth.
- Paid Traffic – If you need to pay people to visit your site, you probably have a useless website. Avoid anyone who sells to you such traffic. It can even get you banned from adsense.
- Blackhat strategies – I know many people think that only people who are shady succeed in life but that is not true. You will pay a few hundred dollars to get a software or trick that only leads to disappointment after a few months. Remember if someone is happy stealing from legitimate search traffic, they would also be happy stealing from you
I have tried these other methods to promote my online business:
- Directory submissions – Good for long term and one way link building. It can be boring. I just spend 5 minutes a day submitting to these sites. After one year, those links are still there.
- Blog Commenting – My business unfortunately has very few competitors so this method was rather hard for me to do initially. However, I found a few business partners like this. It also still very good results even after one year
- Forum Posting – Forums can be a waste of time especially if you get hooked on them. I suggest you login for no more than 20 minutes to your forum then run before you start wasting time in them. They links are wholly dependant on the mood of the forum owner. So I use them to get visitors to my site instead of link juice.
- Article Marketing – By far the best and only method I now rely on. I have to say that this is one sure way of getting your name out there. My business went from nowhere to the top in the world within 3 months. There is a process however, that I use and I shall be expanding on it later.
All in all, for you to find success in your online business, you should never leave out online marketing. Consider online marketing the same as hiring a salesman for your business. If you have a poor salesman, you will not get sales. However, if you spend the time and money to hire a great salesman, you should have a great time successfully marketing your online business empire.
